REWE celebrates grand opening in Henstedt-Ulzburg

Final sprint for REWE North: This August, employees will visit their future workplace in Rudolf-Diesel-Straße 36 in Henstedt-Ulzburg for the first time. The Rewe Group celebrated a pre-opening for the new headquarters for northern Germany with guests from the government and administration, construction companies and other partners.
The centrepiece of REWE Nord is situated on a property that covers 250,000 square metres: Logistics and administrative buildings take up 140,000 square metres of this space. "We deliver goods to REWE supermarkets throughout northern Germany from this location," explains Jochen Vogel, CEO of REWE Region North.
One particularly unique feature of the logistics centre on the ground level is its fully automated processing of dry goods. The administrative facilities are located on the two upper floors. REWE treats its employees to a modern canteen, a small in-house REWE supermarket, a fitness centre and a green space on the rooftop. Around 1,000 parking spaces are also available. Electric charging stations and bicycle stands are also planned in future. When it comes to sustainability, the location scores high marks for its use of renewable energy and the 10,000 m² photovoltaic system on the roof. For these qualities, the location has obtained the Gold certificate from the DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council).
Success for the NORDGATE alliance
The decision of REWE to establish a location in Henstedt-Ulzburg is a success story for NORDGATE. Initial contact for the settlement project was made at the EXPO REAL real estate trade fair, which NORDGATE has attended with its own stand for multiple years to maintain dialogue with companies interested in setting up business. At the new location, the former administrative facilities in Norderstedt will be expanded and supplemented with new warehouse capacities. This would not have been possible at the former location in Norderstedt.
It is clear that the cooperation between NORDGATE partners Norderstedt and Henstedt-Ulzburg was a success, given that Norderstedt Mayor Elke Christina Roeder attended the opening ceremony. "It is fortunate that Rewe is remaining in the southern region of Schleswig-Holstein. We need to think about the region as a whole, not every municipality for itself," she emphasises.
For Ulrike Schmidt, Mayor of the Henstedt-Ulzburg municipality, this was a special day: "With more than 800 employees, REWE will become the largest employer in the municipality." These business premises will improve the area’s reputation and attract other companies to Henstedt-Ulzburg. The NORDGATE alliance helps us market the premises professionally."
